A rare, vintage Ashtray and Matchbook set from the historic Mapes Motor Hotel in Reno, NV. Built in 1947, it was the first skyscraper in the Western US and a prototype for the modern day Hotel/Casino industry. The iconic Art Deco style building was famous for the Sky Room, a lounge on the top floor where many famous acts, including Frank Sinatra, performed, and the Lamplighter Bar, a popular meeting place. The Mapes family also owned the Money Tree Casino, whose logo is on the back of the matchbook. Reno's Mapes Hotel Casino was closed in 1982 and the building later demolished in 2000.
